The ‘All American Week’

The All American Week started on Monday. First, we talked about all the organizational things and then what classes we would have in this week. After that we got a very interesting presentation by Ms Marx, an English teacher. She explained us all about America and her one year in which she lived in the US.

A day later we got visited by Katie a Staff from the DAZ. She too wanted to tell us about the life of teenagers in the US. Starting with telling us about her and her life when she was a teenager. Then she went on with different facts about the USA. Her first topic was what is school like in the US, then sport clubs in the US and then what’s important to teens. After that she went on and explained all about American schools and what America and Germany have in common. She also showed us a map where we could see every state. There also was a map where we could see how much bigger America is. She explained that in America there are lots of sports in the schools and she showed us some of them. She also told us that she played Lacrosse and explained how it works. In the end there were questions which we should answer and after that we got the chance to ask her questions about teenagers and also about her.

On Wednesday, we got visited by Lizzy who also worked for the DAZ. She made typical American team building exercises with us. The games are often played in American camps and schools. The focus of the activities were on communication, trust and of course team work. She started with an ice breaker game where it was all about how we are connecting. It was amazing to see how much we have in common and what hobbies, sports and other things we share. After that game, we went on with a game where the focus was on trust. Then she went on and introduced games in which we had to communicate in different ways.

On the next day, we could get more creative in the kitchen and also with computers. In our school kitchen we were allowed to cook Hamburgers- one very typical American food and after that we watched a movie about food and health in America. Then we got visited by two women that showed us how we can design our own caps, then how to print and at last how to stick the logo on the white caps. Designing the caps was a lot of fun because we could use our own ideas.

On the last day (Friday) we created our own hats like the ones they get at an American graduation and threw them for the picture in the air. After that we got our Certificate and went into our Easter holidays.

The whole „all American week“

The American week was really funny and interesting. Of course, there were high- and low lights like everywhere. Now, I want to tell you something about our week. On our first day (Monday) we had a lot of organizational matters. The teachers informed us about the following week. In the last lessons another teacher told us about her exchanging year in the US and where she went to high school.

On the next day, a lady from America visited us and told us about her teenage and high school years. But she also told us some facts about the country.

On Wednesday, another woman from America visited us and played few games about communication and trust with us. Most of the games were really good, expect one or two but I think it depends on the taste of everyone.

On Thursday we were separated into two groups. One of the groups was cooking and the other one was decorating their own caps. After lunch break the two groups switched. We cooked hamburgers and make some banana milk. On the caps we had to plot our school logo on but we were allowed to do two caps and we could design the second one the way we liked.

On our last day, we crafted graduation hats. When we were finished, we went out to throw our hats and take a picture of our flying hats.

That were the most important things from our week. For me the „all American week“ was very good and interesting. I hope you like my article.
